We stand on our Kebbi community PHC report

The MAWA – Foundation is shocked to read from The Nation Newspaper and others a press conference organized by Mr. Abubakar Kaoje, the Executive Secretary of Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, describing our report exposing the despicable condition of Unguwan Madi community hospital as a false.

In our report, we raised a question as to how the Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency in 2021 got N3.03 billion budget approval, which is largely meant for rural health intervention, and Unguwan Madi community hospital is in a despicable condition.

At the press conference, Mr. Abubakar Kaoje, confirmed that his agency got N3.065 billion budget approval in 2021 and expended N672.96 million. A statement that affirms MAWA’s report, and questions the essence of his denials regarding our report.

In his exact words, Kaoje said “The truth of the matter, according to Dr. Kaoje, is that in 2021, the Kebbi State government had a budgetary provision of N3, 065,379,144.00 for PHC, out of which N672, 968,488.93 was expended for the year”.

Kaoje who agreed on the despicable condition of the Kebbi Unguwan Madi community hospital exposed in MAWA’s report said it is however in that condition because it is a 3rd-grade facility (Health post).

A reason that does not justify Kebbi State’s inability to provide decent and effective medical care for the local people who are dying over lack of healthcare delivery.

At MAWA-Foundation, we do not publish reports without cross-checking facts. We urge Mr. Kaoje and his Agency to carefully read our report. We referred to the N3.03 billion budget approval his agency got in 2021, and that is a standing fact.  What was released from the approved sum we do not know and at no place in our report did we make such a claim.

Therefore, our report on the Kebbi Unguwan Madi community is factual and correct and we stand by it.
