Abuja community inaccessible road killing residents, cut children off from school

Residents of Tunga Sarki community Kwali Area Council of Abuja the Nigerian capital city are dying and children are cut off from attending schools as a result of an inaccessible road in their area.

The road that connects the community to schools, markets, and other towns has been terrible and inaccessible since 2018, making residents go through hell using it and trying to survive.

Mr. Abdullahi, a community resident, speaking to Tracka, a public accountability organization that visited the community, narrated how residents are dying trying to use the road and children cut off from school as a result of the terrible nature of the road.

“One of our members was coming back from the farm, and the river that has taken over the road drowned him while he was trying to cross and he died,” Abdullahi said.

Abdullahi, a community leader, speaking on the consequences of the road on the community, said farmers are the worse hit, pointing out that they cannot bring out their farm produce to the market for sale as trucks cannot access the road and few motorcycles and human beings that access the road, usually put in extra measure.

Abdullahi, however, disclosed that children under the age of 10 do not attend school in the community any longer as they cannot cross a dangerous bridge connecting the community and the school.

The residents, who spoke to Tracka officials, appealed to the Abuja Minister, Mr. Muhammad Musa Bello, Minister of State, Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, and the local government chairman, Mr. Danladi Chiya, and other key influential government officials to help fix the road.

Worse still, the Abuja authority got N62.4 billion approval to be expended on capital projects in the year 2020.

MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to the Abuja authority for a response.
