Despite huge resources expended on health by the Bauchi state government, Bagaranti community hospital is in unimaginable deplorable condition, forcing health workers to contribute monies to buy drugs and treat patients on admission.
The community hospital that is located at the Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi state has no bed, a condition that makes the hospital treat patients on the floor.
Mr. Muhammed Abubakar, a patient admitted at the hospital was seen been treated on a bench as there are no beds to lay him for treatment.
Worse still, 10 communities, with over one million population depend on the deplorable hospital for healthcare delivery.
This is even as health workers at the hospital told Tracka officials who visited the facility that it has been in a deplorable condition for over 10 years.
Speaking on the terrible condition of the hospital health workers narrated how they contribute their personal money to buy drugs to treat patients that are on admission.
They, however, added that in circumstances they have cases of pregnant women, they refer them to Misau general hospital, which is about 3 kilometres away from the hospital.
The health workers further disclosed that the hospital has only two medical staff and a volunteer.
They, however, added that the volunteer does not often report to duty because there is no support from the hospital and he lacks transport fare to visit often. Pointing out that he only gets paid during the immunization exercise.
Mr. Jaro Ado, the community’s traditional ruler, speaking to Tracka officials, said apart from the deplorable nature of the hospital, the community lacks electricity, water roads, and other basic infrastructure and has appealed to the authority to help fix them.
Tracka, a public accountability organization has since appealed to the authority to help fix the hospital.
Worse still, the Bauchi state government over the decades had expended a huge amount of resources on health, resources that are yet to reflect on community hospitals across the state.
