Students of the Special Education School in Tudun Maliki community of Kano State are learning sitting on the floor in a classroom that is near collapse and completely dilapidated.
This is even as the Kano state government in the last decades had spent billions of naira in education, an amount that is yet to reflect in Tudun Maliki Special School, forcing children to learn sitting on the floor.
Worse still, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the Kano State governor bagged the 2018 best Governor award for doing excellent in education.
The Telegraph newspaper who gave the award said Ganduje has performed extremely well in the education and health sector.
At the event, Funke Egbemode, Telegraph Managing Director said, Ganduje is making a huge impact in people’s lives, which is why the award is important.
Tracka, a public accountability organization that visited the school, uncovered how students are learning sitting on the floor.
The organization has since appealed to Mr. Ganduje, to help fix the school to enable the students to learn in a better environment.
The three-block of classrooms that are three in number are situated at the Minjibir model school in the Mjb Local Government Area of Kano state and were facilitated by Mr. Bashir Baballe, a lawmaker while Tahlil Global Link Limited served as a contractor for the project.
The project that had its first phase completed in 2016 is yet to be put into use while they are still under lock and key.
It is not, however, clear why the classrooms have been locked up and not put to use five years they were completed.
