Despite N100 million allocation, no single building renovated in Idah collage of health

There is no single new building to show for the N100 million allocation by the Kogi State government in its 2020 budget for the construction and upgrading facilities at College of Health Technology Idah.

Under the deal, the state government had in its 2020 budget allocated the sum of N100 million for the renovation of the college, and, part of the thing the state said it will do in the school is accreditation.

Worse still, a check by MAWA Foundation shows that despite the fund allocation, no single structure was built in the college while the newest buildings in the college were built and commissioned in 2017 by Mr. Yahaya Bello, the state governor.

This is even as staff of the college told MAWA officials that apart from no structure built, no facilities were upgraded in the school.

A senior staff of the college, who spoke to MAWA Foundation and did not want her name mentioned, said the college did not receive any allocation to that effect but said she is aware the state government allocates huge sums of money to the college every year and the funds taken and never given to the school management.

This is even as she said the college has been in a dilapidated condition for years while pointing out that the only visible project carried out in the school was a lecture hall built by Mr. Nuhu Anyegwu that was commissioned by Mr. Yahaya Bello, the Kogi state governor in 2017.

“How do train nurses in this kind of environment and expect them to deliver quality service to the society after graduation”, one of the senior officials told MAWA officials.

Kogi state has the culture of abandoning projects after allocations have been given to them. For instance, in Lokoja the state capital, there are many abandoned projects, and, this is even as funds have been allocated.

MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to the Kogi state government for a response.
