Anambra lawmaker claims a single borehole, toilet cost N15 million

Despite the claim that a single borehole and a toilet cost the sum of N15 million Mr. Emeka Chinedu, a federal lawmaker from Imo State has since abandoned his constituency project.

Mr. Chinendu, a federal lawmaker at the House of Representatives had nominated the construction of a public toilet and a borehole at Nkwo Mbaise Market in Ezinihitte Local Government Area of Imo state.

The Federal Government had since last year allocated the sum of N15 million to the project.

Despite the allocation, the project that is been supervised by the Project Development Institute and was awarded to Gold Man International Limited has since been abandoned.

Tracka, a public accountability organization that visited the project for inspection and evaluation, says though the project had begun, but has since been abandoned with nobody seen working on the site.

Worse still, checks by MAWA FOUNDATION show that the lawmaker may have shortchanged his people through the inflation of project cost.

For instance, Mr. Ezima Joseph, a civil engineer with over 17 years of experience told MAWA FOUNDATION that construction of a toilet and borehole averages between N2 million to N2.5 million, and that covers payment for labour and consultancy services. Joseph said there no doubt that the contract has been highly inflated and monies were possibly stolen.

MAWA FOUNDATION could not immediately reach out to Mr. Chinedu, the Imo lawmaker for a response.
