N485 million FERMA road washes away few months after

N485 million Mararaba-Donga Road in Taraba South of Taraba State constructed by the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has washed away a few months after it was completed.

Tracka, a public accountability organization that was at the project site, says it was poorly constructed.

The poorly constructed work was done by Wiz China World Wide Engineering Limited, a company that got the contract.

Under the deal, the Nigerian government had in 2021 budgeted N2.1 billion for the road construction. An amount the government had released N485 million for the project.

FERMA, a government agency established to efficiently and effectively monitor and administer road maintenance with the sole aim of keeping all federal roads in a good and safe condition, has since monitored and constructed a road that can be best described as a death trap.

This is even as the road, built by FERMA which by the law establishing it ought to construct a standard road, has since constructed a substandard road that has begun to wear off which exposes road users to danger.

Worse still, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), a Nigerian agency, created to eradicate road traffic crashes and create a safe motoring environment in Nigeria had in many of its reports, pointed out that bad road is one of the major causes of road accident in Nigeria that leads to the loss of many lives.

The action of FERMA, shows, that it is greatly contributing to road accidents in Nigeria through the bad roads it constructs.

MAWA – Foundation could not immediately reach out to FERMA for an official response.
