Nasarawa community begs for assistance as PHC collapses

Residents of Oversea, a community in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State are begging the government for help over the dilapidated nature of a hospital in their area.

Mr. Adbulraman Ahmed, a community resident, speaking to a Tracka official that visited the area, narrated their unpleasant ordeal as a result of the dilapidated hospital that serves as the only means of healthcare in their entire area.

Ahmed, narrating their predicament, said the community has recorded a good number of deaths as a result of the dilapidated hospital that has made effective healthcare delivery practically impossible.

He, however, added that in many instances, they had lost relatives on the way to a better hospital when the primary health care cannot provide adequate healthcare and referred patients to other hospitals.

Worse still, he disclosed that healthcare has no structure, and because of the importance of healthcare to the community, a resident gave his house to be used as a hospital.

He disclosed that the community is at the risk of losing the hospital as the owner of the building they operate from has since given them a quit notice because he wants to use his property.

Ahmed said although there is a government building in the community that got burnt, they had approached the government to renovate it for a primary health care centre using communal efforts, but unfortunately, they are yet to get approval.

The community residents say the Primary Health Care will cease to operate if the quit notice elapses and they did not find a place to use and operate.

A health worker in the hospital speaking on the condition they work, said the clinic is highly underfunded and appealed to the Nasarawa State government to help fund the clinic while pointing out, it is the only hospital the entire community residents depend on for healthcare delivery.

The hospital needs a permanent structure, personnel, and equipment, a demand they are appealing to the Nasarawa State government to help them achieve.

This is even as the Nasarawa State government in the last 10 years has expended millions of Naira on health. A huge sum that is yet to reflect in the improvement of healthcare in the state.
