The Niger Delta RBDA had in a shocking example of corruption that has helped undermine the education sector in Nigeria paid the sum of N59.63 million on an abandoned school project in Delta State.

In a collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Niger Delta RBDA awarded the construction of a classrooms block in Agbarho Grammer School, Agbarho Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State at the price of N59, 633,373.56.

Community residents that spoke to MAWA during field verification, said the contractor, only dug the foundation, left the project, and never returned.

One month after the MAWA Foundation report, exposing how the contractor, the agency, and ministry handling the project abandoned it after the money has been paid, work has resumed on the site with the engineer promising to deliver in two weeks.

“I paid an unscheduled inspection visit to our six classrooms building project site at Agbarho Grammar School Agbarho Friday 15th October 2021”. The Vice-Principal, Mrs. Efejanu Uche took us around the project in the company of the site Engineer James Ayemi”. While I worried about the delay in execution I was assured by the Engineer that the project will be completed in a matter of weeks. I was however satisfied with the quality of work”, the lawmaker said on his Facebook page on Monday.
