Mr. Ademu Aliero, a Nigerian lawmaker from Kebbi state has been caught in the act that seems he might have shortchanged his people.
The lawmaker has facilitated the construction of a single borehole for N20 million as a constituency project.
Under the deal, Aliero nominated the sum of N20 million for two boreholes as a constituency project, one of them to be cited at the Sabon Gari Rogo community in Bunza local government area of Kebbi state.
Mr. Ilevbaoje Uadamen, Head Tracka in a telephone conversation, told WAR, their team was at the community where the project is located for an inspection and found N10 million borehole completed in Sabon Gari Rogo community
Constituency project funds are intervention funds giving to Lawmakers to carry out development projects in their communities targeting the rural dwellers with the poor and the vulnerable at the centre of consideration.
Nigeria’s practice has shown that constituency projects are usually inflated while some are abandoned. And in some cases, projects constructed are substantially done using lawmakers company their allies.
Worse still, the lawmaker did not disclose to the community people that the borehole is a constituency project that has been paid for by the government, rather he told them the project was donated by him.
