Aminu Tafida, son of Hayatu Tafida, a Special Assistant to Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, the Sokoto state Governor, has been remanded in prison custody in Sokoto state for filming and sharing a naked video of his girlfriend online, an action he carried out to spoil her marriage and frustrate her.
One of the civil society activists, who spoke to the Media Advocacy West Africa Foundation (MAWA – Foundation) and prefers to remain anonymous, narrated how Tafida lured his girlfriend to a hotel, had sex with her, recorded it without her knowledge, and kept the video for three years.
He, however, explained that when his girlfriend wanted to get married, he sent the recorded naked video to the man that wanted to marry her and three of his friends while he asked them to share the video online.
Rashidat Muhammad, a human rights lawyer, a principal partner of Rahama Law Chamber in Sokoto, narrated to MAWA Foundation how she took a brief from the girl’s mother at Sokoto Hisban Commission before her colleague Mr. Mansur Aliyu, a lawyer, took over the case and began prosecuting it at the Magistrate Court, Sokoto.
Tafida and his friends were charged to Magistrate Court III Sokoto by the Sokoto state police command who investigated the case.
The suspects have since appeared before the court twice while they have been remanded in prison custody pending another hearing.
The girl’s mother however alleged that Tafida’s father has been threatening her to drop the case against his son.
She explained how he had on many occasions offered her money so that the case will be forgotten.
When MAWA Foundation contacted Mr. Aliyu, lawyer to the victim, he said he is in court and promised to send the victim’s mother’s telephone number.
