Over 600 school children are learning under a classroom building that is collapsing and the state government appears not to be interested in saving the school children from dying should the building finally collapse on them.
The collapsing Model Boarding Boys Primary and Junior School located at Ringim Local Government Area of the state with a population of 192,024 and 42 Kilometers away from Dutse the Jigawa State capital poses a big threat to the lives of the kids and their teachers who may be killed, should the classrooms collapse.
The state not showing concern about the collapsing school and the lives of the kids is affirmed by the action of the state Governor who Eduplana, a Civic-tech organization that works to promote accountability and service delivery in Nigeria’s Education sector, has since last year, drawn his attention to the terrible nature of the school, and nothing has been done.
This is even as the collapsing classrooms are being used by both primary and secondary pupils which makes it more dangerous for the lives of kids.
A visit to the school shows how the school children, sit on the floor while the classrooms have tattered and licking roofs.
The classrooms that have a complete resemblance to where animals are kept are been used to provide education for the Ringim children with the state government not making any effort to build a better school for the kids.
A school teacher who did not want his identity disclosed, said by their record, that they have over 600 students with many still coming for enrolment.
MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, the Jigawa State Governor for an official response.
However, Mr. Usman who lives at Gumel, close to the old Jigawa State, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp, told MAWA via a telephone conversation that apart from the terrible dilapidated nature of Ringim school, there are many terrible schools in Jigawa State with many children learning in environments that can be best described as a zoo that will serve a better purpose of keeping animals and not kids.
