More than 3000 kids at Marmara Islamiya Primary School in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State are sitting on the bare floor to learn in the classroom.
This is even as the state under the supervisor of Mr. Darius Ishaku, the Governor, in just two years alone claimed to have spent N3.4 billion on education.
Under the deal, Taraba state government in the year 2018 approved N1, 649,274,074.00 for its universal basic education board, also in the year 2019 same basic education board got N1, 786,713,570.69 approval from the state budget, making a total of N3, 435,987,644 approval for primary education in two years.
Apart from the approval for the years 2018 and 2019, in the year 2020 the state estimated the sum of N1, 947,517,792.05 for basic education and N1, 122,794,393.34 in 2021.
Worse still, despite the huge amount of monies the state government claimed to have spent on education, over 3000 kids still sit on the bare floor to learn in classrooms.
A visit to the school located at Wukari, a densely populated local government that is 208 kilometres away from Jalingo the state capital, reveals that apart from a huge number of kids seen sitting on a bare floor, the school is hugely deplorable and needs urgent government intervention.
Although the Taraba State government claims to have expended a huge amount of monies on education, evidence on the ground shows the monies were not properly utilized. Many government-owned schools in the state are in deplorable condition with a good number of kids learning under deplorable conditions.
Tracka, a public accountability organization that exposed the school, has since appealed to the Taraba State government to help fix it.
