Residents of Temidire/Idi Obi in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State are groaning over the horrible nature of their community hospital.
A visit to the hospital that serves a huge number of persons in and around the community shows its rotting roof, fallen windows, and dirty environment.
A confirmation of the horrible nature of the hospital is that it has been without safe water for four years. This is even as a borehole that serves as an alternative to the water supply to the hospital has since become faulty and no longer works.
Health workers attesting to the horrible nature of the hospital disclosed that the equipment available to them is grossly inadequate to treat many patients that got admitted daily.
Some of the staff and residents who spoke about the horrible nature of the hospital, narrated how it lacks drugs, pointing out how the government failed to supply medicine to the health centre.
Mr. Abayomi, a community resident who described the hospital as hugely deplorable, accused the Oyo state government of showing a careless attitude toward the health of the people.
Abayomi told MAWA-Foundation that the situation of Temidire/Idi Obi hospital is far better compared to what is obtainable in rural communities in the state while pointing out that many are dying of sicknesses that can easily be cured as a result of deplorable healthcare delivery in the state.
“I can assure you, what you have seen at Temidire/Idi Obi hospital is better compared to what is obtainable in rural communities in Oyo state. The government has since abandoned community healthcare delivery”, Abayomi said
Miss Joy Abu, who claims to have relied on the Temidire/Idi Obi hospital for healthcare delivery in the last three years, disclosed that many patients who visit the hospital are often left frustrated because there are no sufficient equipment and drugs available for the health workers to perform their duty optimally as expected.
The Temidire/Idi Obi community has become this horrible even as the Oyo state government in the last decades, had expended a huge amount of resources on healthcare.
Tracka, a public accountability organization that exposed the terrible nature of the hospital has since appealed to the Oyo State government to fix it.
