At the Centre for Development Communication (CDC), formerly Media Advocacy West Africa (MAWA Foundation), we are empowering rural communities through our Communication for Development (C4D) approach.
Unlike traditional methods that rely solely on top-down information delivery, our C4D strategy fosters inclusive, participatory dialogue. It allows community members to discuss the issues that affect them and co-create homegrown solutions..
Through the Communication for Development approach that facilitated active community participation, Kanzo a community with over 500 population in the Kuje Area Council of FCT-Abuja have a better understanding of the importance of citizen engagement and public accountability demand, resulting in their establishment of a community of hub and traditional justice system.
The community of hub and traditional justice system has become institutionalized and serves as a platform where residents meet every month to discuss issues of governance, peace, and security affecting them.
They have elected representatives who meet with the government authority to convey their demands on behalf of the community when the need arises.
This success story demonstrates the power of communication as a tool for sustainable development. It proves that when communities are heard and empowered, they can build systems that outlast projects and funding cycles.
This transformation would not have been possible without the support of people who believe in our mission. Your donations fuel these stories of change.
With your continued support, we will scale this impact to more communities across Nigeria and West Africa.
