For the past three years, the Centre for Development Communication (CDC), through the Indigenous Climate Action Network (ICAN), has been working with rural farming communities, Kawu, Igu, Zuma, Dota, Kaida, and Dobi in FCT-Abuja. Using participatory and indigenous communication approaches, we’ve supported farmers in understanding climate change and taking meaningful adaptation and mitigation actions.
Here’s what we’ve achieved so far:
- Increased awareness among farmers about the impacts of climate change on agriculture and livelihoods.
- Adoption of climate-smart farming techniques and practices.
- Revitalization and intergenerational transfer of indigenous knowledge systems.
- Stronger community ownership of climate resilience efforts.
As one elder from Zuma community shares, we are happy your NGO is mobilising our young farmers to learn from older and experienced ones about Indigenous adaptation measures. This is not only about climate change, it is about preserving our culture of farming.
These successes have been driven by passion, commitment and limited resources. But to continue and scale this vital work, we now face a pressing sustainability challenge.
We’re seeking partnership to help sustain and expand this vital work. Contributions between $5,000 and $10,000 can make a transformative difference. Your support can ensure that grassroots climate solutions rooted in indigenous knowledge not only survive but thrive.
Let’s keep grassroots climate resilience alive. If you’re interested in supporting or collaborating, please reach out, we’d love to hear from you
