Driving Climate Action through Communication for Development

As Project Lead at the Centre for Development Communication, since 2022, my team and I have led a climate change communication initiative where we deployed the Communication for Development (C4D) approach — a participatory strategy that promotes community-led dialogue, learning, and action on development issues.

This approach enabled active participation and collaboration among multiple community-based organizations (CSOs), youth-led groups, and local government authorities across all six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Our initiative focused on facilitating the active involvement of diverse stakeholders in climate change communication—aimed at deepening their understanding of climate issues and enhancing their capacity to promote climate awareness and action at the grassroots level.

One of our most significant achievements is the establishment of a Climate Justice Network, which empowers members to educate their communities on climate change indicators, its impacts, and practical adaptation and mitigation strategies.

The use of the C4D approach has effectively supported grassroots capacity building, strengthened community resilience, and enhanced youth engagement in climate advocacy.

Let’s connect to collaborate on community-led climate solutions.
