N120 million Abia state stadium construction has been abandoned despite 50% fund been released by the Federal Government.
Under the deal, a construction of mini-stadium at Osisioma Ngwa in Osiosioma/Ugwunagbo/Obingwa Federal Constituency of Abia State was assigned as a constituency project.
The federal government in 2019 allocated the sum of N60 million to the project while 50% of the money was released.
One of the locals who spoke to MAWA Foundation said apart from a foundation dug for the project, nothing has been done at the construction site.
This is even as Mr. Tochukwu, the state Tracka official, told MAWA Foundation that a primary school was demolished as part of acquiring land for the project.
And, since after the school demolition, the project site has been abandoned and the construction stopped.
Despite the project having been abandoned in 2019, the federal government in 2020 allocated another N50 million to it while another 50% of the fund released.
Although 50% of 120 million which is the sum of 60 million has been released for the project, it hascontinued to be abandoned.
A visit to the project site has no sign post while the contractors handling the project continue to remain unknown.
