Mr. Ikengboju Gboluga, a lawmaker from Ondo state, at the Federal House of Representatives has shared N20k each to 100 women as constituency project empowerment scheme after N23.7 million allocations from Federal Government.
The lawmaker who shared the N20k at his constituency office in Okitipupa on Saturday, the 27th day of February 2021 had in 2020 nominated women empowerment as his constituency project.
A nomination the Federal Government had since released the sum of N23.7 million for its execution.
MAWA Foundation analysis shows that out of the N23.7 million given to the Ondo lawmaker for women empowerment, he spent N2 million and pocketed N21 million.
Tracka, a public accountability organization that tracked the empowerment scheme, told MAWA Foundation that the 100 women beneficiaries were selected from Okitipupa and Irele Local Government Areas of Ondo State.
Those selected were trained in cake baking and other forms of businesses before they were given N20k each as a start-up grant for their businesses.
Mrs. Christianah Orisaebinone, one of the beneficiaries, from Okitipupa, said her desire to improve on her skills by learning new trades has been met having participated in the programme.
Mrs. B.O Ogundayomi, the Chairperson of Okitipupa Hairdressers Association, said that the training and the money will empower the women to do better in their businesses.
