The Federal Ministry of Water Resources in what appears a brazen corruption has built a single sanitation facility in Taraba state for the sum of N123.3 million.
In what appears a shocking example of contract inflation, the Water Resources Ministry under the COVID-19 intervention programme said it constructed one Sanitation and Hygiene facility at a motor park in Jalingo the Taraba state capital at the sum of N123, 333,333.
Tracka, public accountability organization that visited the project and confirmed its completion raised issues of possible graft.
The contract that was awarded to Messrs Elixir Essential Global Nigeria Limited was supervised by Taraba State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency.
This is even as Checks by MAWA FOUNDATION show the contract may have been highly inflated.
Mr. Abel Magaji, a resident of Jalingo who claims to have a good knowledge of the project, told MAWA FOUNDATION that there was a huge corruption in carrying out the project.
When MAWA FOUNDATION sought the explanation of Elixir Essential Global Nigeria, the company that was awarded the project, its official while denying receiving N123.3 million, said he is not sure of the exact amount expended on it, and promised to get back as soon he clarifies it with his boss.
MAWA could not immediately reach out to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources for a response.
