Mr. Ahmed Wase, a lawmaker from Plateau state and Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian 9th House of Representatives, has been caught in the act of branding his name on constituency projects.
An action that was carried out by Mr. Danjuma, one of his Special Assistants, who is said to be in charge of the constituency office of the lawmaker.
In efforts by Mr. Ibrahim Tijjan, the Special Assistant to Idris shared pictures of constituency projects influenced and carried out by his principal.
In the pictures shared, Tijani claims distribution of knapsacks and insecticide to farmers, the distribution of cash and palliatives during the covid-19 lockdown, and the distribution of over 500 motorcycles across the Wase federal constituency are the lawmaker’s constituency projects.
On the pictures of motorcycles shared by Mr. Ibrahim Tijjan, the Special Assistant to the Plateau lawmaker, Idris’s name is branded on them, which is a malicious attempt at deliberately misinforming his constituents, for selfish political interests.
Constituency projects are nominated by the lawmakers for the needs of their constituents and recommended same to the executive during budgeting; this will help to improve the living condition of the people in their constituents through building local infrastructures.
However, Nigerian experience has shown that Federal Lawmakers do not execute constituency projects as they appear in the national budget, and getting them to account for monies approved for such intervention is always difficult.
And, often community residents are not aware such monies have been given to their representatives, and that makes accountability very difficult.
Dear @HonAhmedWase
We reiterate that constituency projects should not be labeled as donations by community representatives in the National Assembly; this is a malicious attempt at deliberately misinforming their constituents, for selfish political interests. #AskQuestions https://t.co/Cf9r83e5RR pic.twitter.com/su8b3Jnzxt
