Uche Ekwunife, a federal lawmaker from Anambra State has allegedly abandoned her N20 million Kabe road constituency project despite allocations made by the Federal Government.
The deal was stuck using the Nigeria Institute of Building as the supervising agency.
Uche Ekwunife, a Senator representing the people of Anambra State had nominated the construction of Kabe College road at Amawbia in Akwa South Local Government Area of Anambra State as her constituency project.
Constituency projects are Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIP) nominated by the lawmakers and recommended to the executive to be included in the budget. They are often projects located in rural communities to improve their living condition through the provision of local infrastructures and rural empowerment programmes.
It is unclear the company Uche Ekwunife and Nigeria Institute of Building awarded the contract.
Nigerian experience has shown that Lawmakers do not execute constituency projects as they appear in the national budget, and getting them to account for monies approved for such intervention projects is always difficult.
And, often, community residents are unaware that such monies have been given to their lawmakers, making accountability very difficult.
Tracka a public organization at the project location in Anambra State said the contractor handling the project has since abandoned it and left two months ago.
MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to Ewunife and the Nigeria Institute of Building for official responses.
