FCT Children learn under despicable condition

Paikon Kore Community Children of Gwagwalada Area Council in Nigeria Federal Capital Territory are learning under a despicable condition as the school is near collapse over government negligence.

A visit to the Government Secondary School that was built in 2017 according to the community inhabitants, shows the deplorable condition of the classrooms without windows and doors while some do not have roofs.

Mr. Usman Mohammed, a community champion who spoke to MAWA Foundation about the condition of the school, says it is so terrible that the students no longer have classrooms and may have to borrow space to learn.

Public schools in FCT continue to be in terrible condition after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had expended the sum of  N280.529 billion allocation to fund education.

Data from Education Secretariat shows that the FCTA in nine years, from 2007 to 2016 spent the sum of N280.529 billion allocation on education.

Good as it sounds, despite the huge sum that had been expended on education, public schools across the six Area Councils in FCT are in dire terrible condition that needs urgent intervention to fix them.

Some of the teachers who spoke to MAWA officials disclosed that Dobi is not the only community with terrible schools, they pointed out that many schools in Gwagwalada and Kuje are without classrooms and teachers.
