Akwa Ibom Asphalt Plant fencing abandoned despite N36 million allocation

The Akwa Ibom Asphalt Plant fencing project has been abandoned despite the sum of N36 million allocated to the project in the 2020 budget.

Under the deal, the project that is located at Ikot Ekpene area of Awka Ibom state got the sum of N36,986,549 from the Federal Government 2020 budget.

Tall as the project seems, a former  state lawmaker and a traditional ruler in the community where the project is sited said there was no such project.

They confirmed to Tracka team that was in the community to inspect progress made in the fencing that there is no such a project.

Worse still, a senior government official who, spoke to MAWA Foundation and did not want his name mentioned, said there is high rate of corruption in the way government projects are been executed in the state.

He accused the state government of awarding contracts to ghost contractors, a practice he said is meant to create a suitable circumstance for the state officials to divert monies without trace.

MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to the Awka State government for a response
as the state commissioner for information telephone number could not be reached.
