N1.12 billion Ukanafun Akwa Ibom hospital remains abandoned

The N1.12 billion Ukanafun Akwa Ibom hospital has remained abandoned despite the sum of N800 million capital already released for the project.

The Akwa-Ibom state government in 2008, released the sum of N800 million for the construction of a 50-bed cottage hospital in the Ukanafun area.

Despite the fund release, the hospital construction remains abandoned while the construction work has since stopped.

A senior state official in the ministry of health who did want his name mentioned, while speaking to MAWA Foundation via a telephone conversation, said he is aware of the project but not in a position to give detail about it.

Mr. Joseph, who prefers only his first name mentioned, told MAWA Foundation that Ukanafun hospital will address healthcare inadequacy that is been witnessed in the state.

He, however, appealed to the state government to help complete the project to enable residents to have access to healthcare delivery.
