Lokojo residents are groaning as water scarcity hits the Kogi state capital with many resorting to the use of borehole and well as alternative source of water.
Some of the residents who spoke to MAWA Foundation, gave different accounts of the situation. While some say they have not had water for one month, others said 14 days and 4 days respectively depending on your location.
Mrs. Ebi who lives at the 200 units, peace community opposite police band office, told MAWA Foundation that there is no water her area, adding that people around her neighborhood now depend on the borehole in her house for water.
Ebi, however, added that there is no water in her area for over one month.
Another resident, Mr. Ameh, a civil servant, told MAWA Foundation that there is no water in Lokoja for over 14 days now. He disclosed that they learned there is no chemical for water treatment.
Another resident, Monica, told MAWA Foundation that some residents who contributed money and paid for the chemical were given water on Friday.
A senior official in the Kogi state water board who spoke to MAWA Foundation, confirmed water scarcity in Lokoja while attributing it to maintenance and logistics problems while assuring that the issue will be soon addressed.
