Ebonyi state allocates N490 million to Gov office, zero naira to PHCDA

The Ebonyi government, despite the dilapidated nature of hospitals in the State, in her budget, allocated N490 million to office of the governor, while she allocated zero Naira to the Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA).

This is even as the Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA) is saddled with the responsibilities of providing healthcare to rural residents.

A visit to the state website shows that in her published budget, zero allocation was made to the PHCDA while that of the governor got N490 million in her 2020 appropriation.

Worse still, Maternal and Child health care at Nsugbe Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State is in a huge deplorable condition, forcing residents to go through hell in search of medical care.

Apart from its deplorable nature, there is high inadequate personnel and medical equipment in the hospital.

Also, the Primary Health Centre at Obobo community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi state is in deplorable condition and needs government intervention for its renovation, medical and manpower equipment.

Tracka, a public accountability organisation that has since exposed the terrible nature of community hospitals in Ebonyi State, has since called on Mr. David Umahi, the Governor to help renovate and equip them.

Ebonyi, is not the only offender, across the Nigerian state, government at the federal, state and local levels,  do not see investments in healthcare as a priority and fundamental.

And, this explains why there is a huge collapse in the health sector across the country, making the poor die for illness that can easily be treated while the rich travel abroad for medical treatment.

Although there have been huge advocacies on the importance of investments in healthcare in Nigeria by the civil society groups and some government agencies through donor funding, the advocacies appear not to be yielding any effective impacts as the healthcare sector in Nigeria continues to face huge dilapidation.
