Constituency Project Sokoto lawmaker claims, a single borehole costs N30 million

Mr. Musa Sarkin-Adar a federal lawmaker from Sokoto State and Border Communities Development Agency has claimed to have constructed a single bore at the cost of N30 million as a constituency project.

Mr. Sarkin-Adar, representing the people of Sokoto West Constituency District had in the year 2020 facilitated the construction of a Solar Borehole at Kyadawa Community in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State as his Zonal Intervention Project (Constituency Project).

The project had N30 million budget for it while funds had been allocated for its execution from the Federal Government.

The contract for the Borehole construction was awarded to Slars Nigeria Limited.

Udeme, a public accountability organization that visited the project site, says it has since been completed.

This is even as two officials from different hydrological companies who spoke to MAWA-Foundation, say N30 million is enough to construct three Boreholes in three different communities.

Mr. Mathew Olufemi, a hydrologist, told MAWA that N10 million is a huge amount to construct a standard Borehole for community use, and wondered why Sokoto lawmaker and the federal agency will contemplate constructing a single borehole for N30 million.

It is not, however, clear the kind of procurement process carried out by the Border Communities Development Agency and Mr. Musa Sarkin-Adar to have arrived at constructing a single Borehole at the cost of N30 million.

MAWA Foundation, could not immediately reach out to Mr. Musa Sarkin-Adar and the Border Communities Development Agency for an official response.
