Taraba community lacks healthcare over deplorable PHC

Residents of the Mayo Dule community in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State lack access to healthcare due to the deplorable Primary Health Care (PHC) they rely upon for their healthcare delivery.

On a visit to the community, one observes that the healthcare has only one functional bed for a huge number of patients that rely on it for their healthcare delivery.

The locals who spoke to Tracka, a public accountability organization that first exposed the dilapidated hospital, recounted how patients who are admitted to the hospital are told to return home and bring their mattresses to be used for their admission.

“When patients are admitted to the hospital, they are told to bring their mattress from home”, the locals say.

It is difficult to think that Mayo Dule community relies upon this dilapidated healthcare for their medical care even as the Taraba State government with different budgets claim to have expended huge amounts of money on health.

Miss Jane, a nurse in one of the public hospitals in Jalingo the Taraba State capital, who spoke to MAWA described the state of primary healthcare in the state as deplorable.

“Apart from the deplorable condition of hospitals in Taraba State, as a nurse, there are many community primary healthcare centres in the rural communities without health workers and equipment”, Jane told MAWA.

MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to Taraba State government for an official response.
