On the 16 day of May, 2024 we published a story “NMDPRA awards Depot construction to a non-existent company”. Where we misrepresented Noretek Energy Limited as Novertek Energy Limited.
We hereby retract the said story. Our action is based on the explanation from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority ( NMDPRA) regarding the story. Mr. George Ene-Ita, the NMDPRA Spokesperson in a letter sent to MAWA-Foundation explained that the agency that was given “ATC” (Authority To Construct) a Depot for the storage of 500 Metric Tonnes (MT) of LPG in the Abuja area was Noretek Energy Limited and not Novertek Energy Limited as was erroneously captured on our earlier report.
A check on the CAC website shows that Noretek Energy Limited is duly registered with CAC.
This error would have been avoided if NMDPRA had responded to a Freedom of Information Act (FOI) by Divine Era Development and Social Rights Initiative (DEDASRI) and Media Advocacy West Africa (MAWA-Foundation) on January 9th 2024 requesting that it make basic information about the Depot construction project available to them.
