Despicable Kebbi School Kids sit on bare floor

Children of the Dakin Gari community in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State lack access to quality education due to the despicable condition of primary school in the area.

On a visit to the Dakin Gari Primary School, one sees a totally dilapidated structure with collapsing roofs, walls, and windows and kids learning sitting on the floor.

The kids estimated to be over 400 are learning under this awful and dilapidated condition despite the claims by the Kebbi state government to have spent huge amounts of money yearly on education.

Tracka, a public accountability organization that first exposed the despicable condition of the school, says it lacks chairs, teachers, and other teaching materials to make it conducive for learning.

Considering the despicable condition of Dakin Gari Primary School, it is unclear how the Kebbi State government deploys resources meant for education.

Three teachers in Kebbi who spoke to MAWA about the condition of education in the state, described it as deplorable while calling on the government to immediately intervene and save it from collapsing.

One of the teachers, speaking in an angry tone, told MAWA that the collapse in education in Kebbi State is more prominent in rural communities.

Mr. Gambo Samaila, a community champion who claims to have visited many of the public schools in rural communities in Kebbi, told MAWA that many of them can be best described as zoos where animals are kept.

This is even as Samaila accuses the Kebbi State government of mismanaging money meant for education.

“With the deplorable condition of schools in rural communities in Kebbi, one is at a loss how the state deploys monies meant for education”, Samaila said.

MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to Kebbi State government for an official response.
