Extra: Accountant-General Office pays aviation firm N62.3 million to lift a corps

The Office of the Accountant-General of Nigeria, in what appears an act of corruption that has helped undermined Nigeria’s development has paid the sum of N62.3 million for the lifting of a corps

The money was given to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, through the Ministry of Finance

The Accountant General Office claimed the money was a refund for the cost of Airlifting the Corpse of late Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero, Wife of the Late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, From Cairo, Egypt to Nigeria.

Under the deal, the Accountant General Office awarded the contract to the Airalay Capital Limited in the sum of N62, 037,211.92

Online checks by MAWA – Foundation show Airalay Capital Limited is a Nigerian aviation asset management company.

The payment has since been published on https://www.govspend.ng a BudgIt platform that publishes government spending.

It is not, however, clear what led the Accountant General Office to have spent such a huge sum to lift a corps.

Mr. Ahmed Idris, Nigeria’s Accountant General was on Monday arrested by the Nigerian main anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly looting the sum of N80 billion.

An amount the EFCC, said was looted through bogus contracts.
