Shocking: ICRC, Nigerian agency pays firm N21.44 million to review agreement document

A Nigerian agency, the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission in what appears an example of contract inflation has paid a firm the sum of N21.44 million to review agreement document.

This is even as a senior official of the agency, told MAWA Foundation that he is not aware of any procurement processes followed before the contract was awarded.

He, however accused the agency of frequently violating the Procurement Act and civil service rule in its desperate move to syphon monies using cronies and associates.

Under the deal, the agency, established to supervise and regulate Public-Private Partnership (PPP), and, help Nigeria addresses infrastructure deficit that hampers economic development, awarded the contract to Business Law Academy Limited at the sum of N21, 440,300.00.

An amount that has since been published on govspend.ng a BudgIt platform that publishes federal government spending.

This is even as the agency did not made available the kind of agreement document it paid a firm N21.44 million to review.

Different lawyers who spoke to MAWA Foundation, said that amount is enough to draft any kind of agreement and that includes payment of legal fees and wondered why Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission will pay such amount of money to review already existing document.

MAWA Foundation could not get response from Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, as email sent to Mrs. Linda Amego, the Freedom of Information Officer was not responded to.
