My husband sacked by DSTV during lockdown, our four kids dropped out of school

Chioma a woman living at the Dutse Bukuma in Bwari Area Council of Abuja, the Nigerian capital city has narrated how life has become very difficult since her husband was sacked by DSTV during the lockdown.

“We have four kids, my husband was sacked at DSTV during the COVID-19
lockdown, since then, things became difficult, we pulled our four kids out of school, because feeding became a problem let alone their education “, Chioma told MAWA officials.

Chioma while describing the impact of COVID-19, said the world can never be the same again, pointing out that the destruction on education, job, economy, health and social life by the pandemic is so huge that the world can’t recover from it.

She, however, said the government does not understand the impact of COVID-19, on the rural poor.

” The government does not have the  understanding of how negatively, COVID-19 has impacted on the rural poor, many are in dire situations not knowing where help will come from” she added.

“Before the COVID-19, my husband was doing well, things were better and our four kids attended one of the best private schools in our area, how do I begin to explain that they can’t even attend school again”.
